Internship Program at Coastal Roots Farm (Application Required)

Coastal Roots Farm interns support the Farm’s mission through mutually beneficial volunteer work. Coastal Roots Farm's Internship Program works with diverse individuals to increase land-based knowledge, community connection, environmental stewardship, education for all ages, skills to promote food and social equity within the San Diego community, and more. 

Interns will receive mentoring and supervision from professional staff, technical training, and Jewish and environmental education as relevant. 

Interns will develop skills and competencies in the following areas: 

• Organic agricultural practices 
• Land-based Jewish values 
• Cultivating community 
• Environmental stewardship  
• Promoting food justice 
• Working at a non-profit organization  
• Being part of a multi-faceted team  

Interns are expected to be keen learners, flexible with assignments, and willing to jump into unfamiliar tasks. We also invite interns to bring their whole selves to the experience, sharing their diverse background knowledge and/or skills with the Coastal Roots Farm team comprised of professionals that are always learning.  

Time Frame

Eligibility

Participants must be at least 14 years old and those who are 18 years or older will be asked to complete a background check. Background checks will be completed through Sterling Volunteers and will cost participants $22. Coastal Roots Farm is committed to making our Internship Program accessible to all. If there are any concerns in completing the background check, including financial hardship, please let us know and we will work with you to ensure it is not a barrier.

Certificate of Completion

Interns are eligible for a Coastal Roots Farm certificate upon completion of 36 hours of service. Interns may also complete credits through Coastal Roots Farm pending approval from associated schools and universities.
