At Coastal Roots Farm, we rely on volunteers and strive to provide meaningful and fun volunteer opportunities for our community. Pre-registration is required as there is a limited capacity for all opportunities.
What to bring: Please bring a refillable water bottle and a sunhat. Wear close-toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. We recommend long sleeves and pants. Masks required, gardening gloves optional.
Directions: Enter off of 441 Saxony Rd, and park in the Apple Lot. All Community Volunteering will meet at the Coastal Roots Farm Barn. Please try and arrive promptly, as instructions and tasks for volunteering with be given at the beginning of the volunteer day!
Sunday in the Soil Volunteering
Sundays, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Great for families (participants under 14 must be accompanied by an adult). Seasonal Farm activities to help maintain our education farm and garden. Tasks may include: weeding, mulching, planting, harvesting, bed prep.
10 person maximum.
1st Tuesday of the month, 7:30-9:00 a.m.
Responsibilities include: labeling and stapling produce lists and recipes to bags, recording weights of produce for distribution, bagging cut greens, packing bags for distribution sites, and loading distribution truck. Open to all ages (participants under 14 must be accompanied by an adult).
2 person maximum.
*Please note: With increased demand during the pandemic, we introduced produce packing to prepare bags for our distribution partners. Now that we are re-introducing our "pop up market" style distribution, produce packing will be on hold until further notice.
Rise and Shine Volunteering
Wednesdays, 8:00-9:45 am
Open to all ages (participants under 14 must be accompanied by an adult). Seasonal farm activities to support our Production Team in vegetable fields and Food Forest. Tasks include: weeding, mulching, planting, harvesting, bed prep.
10 person maximum.
Administrative Support (Currently on hold)
1st Monday of the month, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Support our team with administrative tasks that help us accurately track the work we do towards our mission. Tasks include data entry with platforms such as SurveyMonkey, Salesforce, and Microsoft Office. Volunteer does not need previous experience with these platforms but must be comfortable working on the computer.
1 person maximum; must be 14 years or older
PRIVATE VOLUNTEER EVENTS
We also welcome private and corporate groups of 10-30 for private volunteer events. We accommodate private groups for a suggested donation of $18 per person and/or the cost of materials depending on the project. This experience is for ages 14+ only.
