Eco-Jewish Play Fest

Plays will explore such things as joy in nature, food justice, Jewish farmers, whimsy, eco-sorrow, and how stories can transform us. Join us as we come together to celebrate creativity, community, and quick-made art. Seven short (10 minute plays) will invite feelings of wonder, sadness, joy, surprise, questioning, anticipation, and inspiration.

Yes! All plays will be appropriate for people of all ages. Unfortunately, no furry friends allowed.

Absolutely. Coastal Roots Farm is an inclusive space that welcomes people of all backgrounds. The playwrights, directors, and actors at the Eco-Jewish Play Fest Will come from diverse backgrounds. The goal is many different voices creating 7 universally resonant little plays - for you.

Following the performance and as the sun sets, artists and audience will mingle at our afterparty with food from Harrisa Mediterranian Kitchen and drinks hosted by the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center!

In a 24 or 48 hour play festival, an assortment of playwrights, directors and actors gather in the evening. Playwrights meet and chat with their randomly assigned actors and director, and are given their writing prompts (in our case, one of a number of short Jewish texts exploring central ecological values - such as "letting the land rest.") The playwrights then scurry away and for the next chunk of hours, they write, responding creatively to the prompt and to the particular actors assigned. Their short scripts are then set to the director and actors, who bring that script to life over the next half day. The event ends the following evening with performances of the new plays for a live audience.
