  • Pay-what-you-can Farm Stand

Throughout the year, we offer an abundance of fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit, flowers, and eggs at our pay-what-you-can Farm Stand. Our produce is certified organic and always grown with the utmost care for people and the land. We use sustainable practices and our farming reflects generations-old Jewish agricultural traditions.

The Farm Stand is open to community members of all backgrounds and identities. Donations are encouraged for farm produce, but no one is turned away for inability to pay. We accept cash, credit, Apple Pay, and CalFresh EBT.

Our pay-what-you-can Farm Stand is a social enterprise that supports our goal to ensure that everyone in the community has fair, equal, and dignified access to local, fresh, seasonal, organic, and sustainably grown food. We offer those in need up to $30 of produce per visit at no cost through our private check-out system.

Everything you need to know:

When is the Farm Stand open?

Our Pay-What-You-Can Farm Stand is open on Sundays from 10 am - 3pm and Thursdays from 12 pm – 3pm.

Do you sell eggs?

Yes we do! Sundays only, currently only ½ dozen per customer limit, $7 per half doz.

What produce will be available at the Farm Stand?

At Coastal Roots Farm, we use regenerative techniques to grow 60+ varieties of seasonal crops to provide a diversity of nutrient-dense foods for the community.

While we can forecast what to expect from season to season (e.g. cucumbers in the summer, beets in the winter), we cannot predict with certainty which crops will be available on a specific Farm Stand day.

We also donate over 70% of our harvest to San Diegans facing food insecurity and allocate crops to meet these off-site distribution commitments in addition to making them available to the public. Read more about who we serve.

We are grateful for your understanding and encourage customers to shop with an open mind to discover how our weekly harvest can inspire your recipes of the week!

Can I bring my compost to Coastal Roots Farm?

Here at Coastal Roots Farm, we are inspired by Jewish agricultural values such as “Kayamut” (ecological sustainability) and “Bal Tashchit” (responsible resource use). Our compost operations are designed to divert waste from the landfills, limit our ecological footprint, and replenish the soil that grows our food, helping us to live out these important values. To date, we have diverted 3.2 million pounds of waste from the landfill through our various composting enterprises.

We invite you to join us in our commitment to sustainability by participating in our “Food Waste to Animal Feed” compost program. Bring your (non-dairy, non-meat, non-citrus) food scraps to our compost bins located by the entrance gate of our Farm Stand.

Other than shopping at the Farm Stand, how else can the public experience the Farm?

There are many ways to experience Coastal Roots Farm! While we are not open to the general public, we offer many programs and events including our Nature Play, Farm Camp, After School on the Farm, Farm Tours, Field Trips, Birthday Parties, Community Events, Host Your Event, Volunteering, Internships, and other events. We hope to see you at an upcoming event or program!
